What is Kinesio Tape?
Kinesio Tape, also called Kinesio Tex Tape, is the original elastic adhesive tape developed by Dr. Kenzo Kase in the early 1970s.
This original and revolutionary concept utilizes latex-free, hypoallergenic taping designed to be worn for days at a time. It is safe for all human populations: in sports medicine, from elite athletes to weekend warriors; in health care, from to geriatric and pediatric clients.
The application method – the tension (stretch), direction and placement – allows tape treatments to relax or stimulate muscles, but it is the tape itself that makes the method possible.
How Does the Kinesio Taping Method Work?
Kinesio Taping® is a time tested therapeutic method using a uniquely designed elastic tape designed specifically for the method. Kinesio is a modality that is based on the body’s own natural healing process. The Kinesio Taping Method exhibits its efficacy through the activation of neurological and circulatory systems.
This method basically stems from recognizing the importance of body and muscle movement in rehabilitation and everyday life.
Muscles attribute not only to the movements of the body but also control the circulation of lymph flows, body temperature, etc. Therefore, the failure of the muscles to function properly induces various kinds of health maladies.
Kinesio Taping is a modality appropriate for any stage of your treatment plan for conditions such as: Acute, Sub-Acute, Rehabilitative, Chronic, Post-Surgical and Injury Prevention.

Kinesio® education is not just about sitting in a classroom. Classes and seminars are part of it, but they are just one step on the journey. That Kinesio journey includes practical training and research, professional sharing through meetings and symposiums, published articles and much more. For many, their journey will include going through the formal certification process to become a Certified Kinesio Taping Practitioner® (CKTP®) and even a Certified Kinesio Taping Instructor™ (CKTI®).
In the classroom and in practical training, we aim always to meet Dr. Kase’s high standards of intellectual curiosity, medical performance and patient care. This standard has to include the desire to develop and refine a high degree of skill and intuition in the assessment and evaluation of patient needs. Inherent in every technique offered and studied in the Kinesio Taping Method is the requirement to help patients,
Along with practitioners throughout the world, Dr. Kase is dedicated to advancing
Even certification is only the beginning of a lifelong process of learning. The KTAI education program ensures that CKTPs and CKTIs stand out from the crowd in their ability to provide patients with the support and relief of the Kinesio Taping® Method.
